We take pride in being one of the true innovators in the world of freight forwarding and supply chain management, whilst remaining under independent ownership. Davies Turner will continue these successful policies as we go forward, developing new routes and products across all transport modes, as well as strengthening our network of overseas partners.
Our timeline shows we have come a long way since our founding more than a century ago. These are just some of the highlights of the years we have been in operation.

2010

20th anniversary of Davies Turner Air Cargo Ltd being formed.

2009

Awarded AEO status: one of the first freight forwarders awarded this prestigious accreditation.

2000

New millennium starts with Davies Turner offering one million square feet of modern and well-equipped freehold warehousing to the market.

1990

Davies Turner Air Cargo Ltd was formed as a separate group company to concentrate on the development of the worldwide airfreight and express services.

1980

Early computerisation was rewarded with a Queens Award for services to British exporters specialising in the Middle and Far East.

1960

In the 1960s the company was at the forefront of two major industry developments, operating the first TIR (customs sealed) trailers to the Continent on ro-ro ferry services, and working closely with the Port of New York Authority on the introduction of ISO maritime containers, launching our transatlantic full loads and LCL consolidation services in 1968.

1950

With the opening of London’s Heathrow airport, Davies Turner opened and developed a new airfreight division. In 1959 while the Davies Turner London HQ moved to Battersea Wharf.

1930

Just prior to the Great Depression, times were hard but the company still had specialist services for the USA and several continental markets.

1910

In the early 20th century, the company was one of the first to switch from horse-drawn transport to motorised goods vehicles just after the Panama Canal was opened in 1914. The branch network was extended, particularly in the North and the Midlands.

1890

In the 1890s, Davies Turner’s developed standardised reusable lift-vans, an early precursor to the containerisation revolution. We were one of the very first private companies to be incorporated with limited liability under new legislation in 1899.

1870

In April 1870 Davies Turner was established by Alfred Davies in partnership with his father-in-law. His first successful services involved consolidating many small shipments onto one bill of lading - useful because of the high minimums charged by shipping lines at that time. He later became an MP but never left his role in the company.
